My Experiences with Poetry!
WOW have my experiences with poetry changed over these last few months! At the start of this semester, I was very nervous to dive into poetry. I thought writing and creating poetry meant that you had to be creative and artistic. In my previous learnings about poetry, it all seemed so confusing and hard to understand. I never felt that I really connected with poetry. After learning with Dr. Frye, I have gained so much knowledge on what poetry REALLY is. It's full of emotions, different perspectives, growth! Poetry does not have to be hard to create or understand! One key thing that I have learned from Dr. Frye, and many others mentors we discussed, is that poetry can be created out of anything and everything.

I also feel more comftorable with teaching poetry than I did before. A few months ago, I wouldn't have even known where to start teaching poetry correctly to my classroom. Now, I feel more confident for when I get the chance. I hope when I introduce poetry to my classroom that they will feel inspired and grateful about poetry rather than doubt about having to create poetry!

Here are some of my favorite mentor texts about poetry that could easily be used in my future classroom!
